Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – A Weedsport infant suffering from a rare skin disorder has returned to the hospital.
According to a post on a Facebook page dedicated to Easton Friedel, the child stopped breathing overnight and was taken to Upstate University Hospital.
The family posted an update around 3 a.m. saying that the baby's condition had stabilized.
Baby Easton recently returned to Central New York after receiving specialized treatment at a children’s hospital in Cincinnati.
Baby Easton suffers from Epidermolysis Bullosa. Children who suffer from it are often called “Butterfly babies,” as the condition leaves their skin as fragile as the tissue of butterflies’ wings.
The Central New York community rallied around the child from Weedsport and raised tens of thousands of dollars to help him.
Doctors told Easton’s family that most babies with EB die from infection before their first birthday.
