Syracuse (WSYR-TV/ABC News) - The nation’s largest consumer advocacy group is calling on Kraft to stop using the artificial food dye that gives macaroni and cheese its signature orange color.
The Center for Science in the Public Interest says Kraft Macaroni and Cheese sold in the US contains artificial food dyes Yellow 5 and Yellow 6 to give it a distinctive color.
Kraft Cheesey Pasta sold in the UK contains no harmful artificial food dyes.
The dyes have been linked to behavior problems in children. They have also been linked to cancer.
Food bloggers Lisa Leake and Vani Hari have launched a petition collecting signatures to ask Kraft to stop using the dye and start selling the same additive free variety sold in Europe.
