Conquest (WSYR-TV) - Two Cayuga County residents are facing misdemeanor charges after 10 horses were found living inside a manure-filled barn on their property.

One of the horses had to be euthanized; the others were transported to other farms to be cared for.

53-year-old Mary Wing and 66-year-old Lester Wing were charged with animal cruelty.

Conquest Animal Control discovered the horses on Tuesday at the Wings’ home on Egypt Road. Initially, the agency was told that there were only two horses on the property, but 10 were later discovered.

Three of the rescued horses were taken to Cracker Box Palace, a farm that helps abused and neglected animals.

Investigators say the horses were living in stalls that had not been cleaned in a year, nor had their hooves been trimmed.

Staff members at Cracker Box Palace said the horses are on the road to recovery, but have a long way to go.
