North Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- Several options to close the budget gap in the North Syracuse School District were discussed at a meeting Monday night.
Each scenario involves a tax increase, but the percentage could vary based on which plan is adopted. To make up for the budget deficit, there could also be cuts in the classroom. Class sizes may have to increase and the band and orchestra programs could be eliminated at the elementary level. Budgets for other electives and athletic programs may also need to be reduced.
The superintendent says the budget also provides for some education enhancements, such as full day pre-kindergarten and a full time resource officer.
The Board of Education will review the budget before a public vote on May 21.
