It is always important for your baby to have a good night’s rest, but it’s even more important for your child to be safe while sleeping.  Wendy Ramsay from REACH CNY joined us with the do’s and don’ts of proper crib safety.

Do’s:

1. When laying your baby down to sleep, be sure she is on her back, face up every time.  This rule holds true for naps during the day as well.
2. Your child should be in the crib by herself.  Keep clutter out of the crib; no soft objects, toys, or loose bedding.  The mattress should be firm and the sheet should snuggly fit the mattress.
3. “Tummy Time” should be designated for when your baby is awake ONLY.

Don’ts:

1. Don’t allow smoking in the house, car or other places where the baby will be present.
2. Don’t overheat the baby!  Try to maintain a temperature of 68 degrees in your home.  Dress your baby in light sleep clothing.
3. Don’t keep this information to yourself.  Share the information with anyone who will be taking care of your baby!
