Syracuse (WSYr-TV) -- We expect to see teenagers with acne, but did you know adult acne is on the rise.
Doctors say women over the age of 25, as well as those into their 40s and 50s, are suddenly breaking out.
One survey shows acne affects more than 50 percent of women between 20 and 29 and more than 25 percent between 40 and 49.
The reasons are unclear, but one factor is hormones. As women age, their level of male hormones rise. That’s why women with adult acne should have their hormone levels tested.
