Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- More people are having plastic surgery, but fewer people are going under the knife.

Botox, fillers and chemical peels were among the most popular cosmetic treatments in the United States, which has fueled a five percent growth in the plastic surgery industry for the third consecutive year, according to statistics out Tuesday.

Driving the growth was a significant rise in minimally invasive procedures.

Botox treatments rose eight percent last year to 6.1 million procedures, along with the skin-smoothing treatment microdermabrasion.

Demand for fillers to smooth out wrinkles jumped five percent, while laser hair removal treatments rose four percent and chemical peels jumped two percent. Surgery, such as breast enlargements and facelifts, dropped two percent.

The most popular cosmetic surgeries were breast reconstruction, followed by nose reshaping, liposuction, eyelid surgery and facelifts.
