You can follow Gillette Road Middle School student Brady Mills’ quest to eat healthier and exercise more in an effort to lose weight. Brady will be providing us with blog entries during the process.
Here’s Brady’s entry for July 1:
I know that my first blog was short and simple, but I would like to tell you more about myself.
You already know the important stuff like my favorite sport, how old I am and what school I go to.
I like to play other sports including basketball, wrestling, football.
I am planning on playing modified football in the fall for the 7th grade Gillette team and modifies basketball in the winter.
I like to hang out with my friends and play basketball, go to sky chiefs games with my dad and love to watch the Yankees and SU games with him.
I have 2 older identical twin brothers who are 16 and go to CNS - I have a sister who is 10 - she will go to Gillette in the fall with me.
A lot has happened since I was on TV and some of it is really cool.
My Mom works at Borios part-time and she has had customers ask her if she is the the mom that was on TV.
They have told her that they are following my story and are really excited for me.
I have family in Buffalo and the story made it to them with Facebook, so I have other family watching my story and sending me lots of nice comments and support.
My Dad works at Lowe's part-time and a lady that works with him told him she saw me on TV and is following my blog.
She is hoping that my weight loss inspires her to get healthy.
I never thought that this was going to help older people too.
So the best thing that has happened was this weekend - Coach Rockwell - the varsity baseball coach for CNS emailed my dad. He saw the story about me and really liked it so he has invited me to attend the CNS Northstar baseball camp for 2 weeks.
I haven't played ball in a few weeks because the season is over. I am really looking forward to playing and learning.
I couldn't believe it when my mom had me read the email.
It would be really cool if everyone could see me practice. Dad has also set a new goal for me, if I stay focused and try my best he is going to look into getting tickets for a Yankees game.
My family and friends have been great with helping me - on Saturday - my aunt Tia took me and my sister with my 2 cousins on an awesome bike ride, we went on dirt trails and up and down some great hills.
Today, I meet with Kulaa my trainer, for a half hour, he is wicked cool and I have a great time going.
I am a little sore the next day but it's worth it. I feel stronger already. It gets easier everyday to stay away from the junk food. I know that it's for a good reason and it will be worth it.
My mom has been making some great new healthy snacks she finds on Pintrest. My favorite so far is the fat free Coolwhip with strawberries mixes it up puts in on a Graham cracker and one on top - freezes them - and when they are done its like a ice cream sandwich, but better.
Another is a scoop of popcorn in a lunch bag fold it closed and pop it in the microwave, way better than the stuff you get in the store.
Next Monday I want to go see Dr. Scinta and get weighed.
I know that there will be somedays where I might be around junk food and stuff that isn't so great for me, I will try my best and not have more than I should.
My mom said that once in a while it will happen and to do my best, but the next day to get right back on track.
I dont think there is a way for other kids to ask me questions on the blog, so my mom is thinking about setting up a Facebook group so we can message each other and get healthy together.
Well its time to get ready to see Kulaa, I decided that when he makes me sweat it's not a bad thing, I just tell my mom it's my fat crying.
Thanks everyone, special thanks to my aunt Tia, and Coach Rockwell.
