Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - Knee and hip replacements are among the most common operations in America, yet in some parts of the world, the procedures haven’t been an option.
So a group of orthopedic surgeons are taking their life-changing surgeries abroad through Operation Walk
Some of their patients at a Panama hospital traveled for days seeking out the doctors’ help – many of them in pain all the while.
Two of the doctors are brothers from Central New York – Seth and Brett Greenky from SOS are preparing to return to Panama in November to help the next group.
In four days, the doctors will perform 150 operations for free. The Greenkys say it’s medicine at the purest level. They’ll never forget the man who could hardly walk, yet the day after they replaced his knee they said he could go home.
He arrived at the hospital after a five-hour canoe ride and expected to return home shortly after his procedure.
When they return, the Greenkys anticipate having even more stories.
The Greenkys say what they get from Operation Walk is far more than what they give.
This Saturday, a fundraiser will be held for the event, a fun walk at OCC at 9 a.m.
