Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - Can you buy a car that has a smart key if you have a pacemaker?

A cardiologist at Upstate Medical says you shouldn't. Smart keys don't need to be in the ignition to start the car. Some auto manufacturers caution against using smart keys with pacemakers because not all smart keys are exactly the same.

Before purchasing a car with a smart key, one should check with the manufacturer or a doctor.
