I live in the swamps but I don't have a problem with hordes of mosquitoes as I have flocks of bats at night eating them up & lots of dragonflys & birds eating them up during the day. Did have a problem with hornets though, they were sucking up the insecticide like bloody mary's on a Saturday afternoon.

They will have a frost soon there, why spray and waste the money now?

Beaglegal and esyrmcs, your right, they should be more proactive, BUT keep in mind the anti's! That would be the anti-pesticide fanatics, and yes they are many. They would rather either move or deal with the chance of contracting EEE, then to spray at all. It's not the Counties fault, it's the fanatics!

What about the people that no longer have a land line or even a phone. How will they know that it is going to happen if they did not watch the news? And yes why was it not done earlyer with all the rain this year?

This bears repeating. OCHD must, in the future, consider more preventive measures - spraying MUCH earlier in the season when people are most likely to be bitten. The mosquito population this year is incredible. The chances of the EEE mosquitoes existing as early as July are quite good even if they weren't "trapped." Only now that a person has contracted the virus is OCHD doing aerial spraying. (BTW - the truck spraying is, in my opinion, a farce. It serves only to drive them further into peoples' backyards.) This reactionary stance, instead of pro-active,so close to the first frost seems more than WAY too little, WAY too late.

I can't believe they wait until mid Sept to spray.

BeagleGal - 9/14/2009 12:50 PM
It should ALL have been sprayed two months ago...but no one is proactive, only reactive.

Your right, chitt. I'm near the other end, and depending who you talk to, it's often not included in the main area. It should ALL be sprayed.
