Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- A new study in the Journal of Sports Medicine finds girls and younger athletes show more symptoms and take longer to recover from a concussion than athletes who are male or older.

After concussions, high school athletes performed worse than older college athletes on verbal and memory tests and female athletes reported more symptoms AMD greater declines in memory than boys.

It could be that young brains are not fully developed and estrogen levels in girls may exacerbate brain injury.
