East Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - First it was fat, then salt, and now, the latest food to cut back on is sugar. Too much has been linked to obesity, diabetes and other health problems.
Women should limit their sugar consumption to 6 teaspoons a day, men, 9 teaspoons.
When you look at food labels, where sugar is listed in grams, women should get no more than 24 grams of sugar a day, for men 36 should be the limit.
That's hard to do.
A yogurt has 14 grams of sugar, cereals are loaded with sugar; even bananas are high in natural sugar. Even so-called healthy foods can be high in sugar.
