Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – This Doctor On Call question, like most of the questions in our inbox right now, is about swine flu.

One viewer writes, "In the past, when I've come down with the flu I've subsequently contracted pneumonia.  Would my pneumonia shot provide protection from complications from the swine flu, if I should contract it?"

The answer is yes; the secondary infections that develop from the swine flu are the same as those of the ordinary flu.  Your pneumonia shot would protect you.

Our doctor says if you're over 65, be sure to get a booster of the Pnuemovox vaccine every five to ten years.
