Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - Charles in Oneida forwarded an email he received that claimed bananas can help people with depression, anemia, PMS, and blood pressure. He wanted to know if the claims are really true.
A registered dietician says there is truth to some of the claims. Bananas are high in potassium and fiber, as are other fruits and vegetables. In fact, some are even better.
As for the claim that bananas are high in iron and can help anemia, our dietician says bananas are not on the top of the list of foods she would recommend. Beef and poultry are much better sources of iron.
The bottom line is that there is no single perfect food. Bananas can be part of a healthy diet, but should not be the only fruit you eat.
