Palermo (WSYR-TV) - The Oswego County Health Department is reporting that it has discovered Eastern Equine Encephalitis – the EEE virus – in two pools of mosquitoes.
Test results came back on Friday from samples that were collected a couple of weeks ago in the Toad Harbor-Big Bay Swamp area of West Monroe and in the town of Palermo.
The department says the areas are known to periodically harbor the virus and that spraying is not required at this time.
They are reminding people to take measures against EEE by wearing socks, shoes, long pants, and long sleeved shirts during peak mosquito times. In addition, people should use repellent and eliminate standing areas of water on property.
