Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- Have you ever wondered why your fingers get wrinkled like a prune when you sit in the tub? Did you know it’s for a good reason?

British researchers concluded through experiments and testing that wrinkled fingers make it easier for humans to pick up wet, slippery objects.

Researchers suggest that as our distant ancestors searched for food in wet land and streams, the creases evolved.

So the next time you find your fingers looking like prunes, know that it’s likely how humans have adapted to handling objects in wet conditions.
