Experimental AIDS vaccine not working
Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – The government has halted a large U.S. study saying experimental shots are not preventing HIV infection.
The shots also didn’t reduce the amount of the AIDS virus in the blood when people who had been vaccinated later became infected.
Researchers say the news is disappointing.
The study had enrolled more than 2,500 volunteers, mostly gay men, in 19 cities since 2009. Half of which received “dummy shots” and the other half received a two-part experimental vaccine developed by the National Institute for Health.
