Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- You’ve probably already felt it, and now science can confirm there’s more stress in people’s lives today than there was 25 years ago.

Since 1983, women have reported an 18 percent increase in stress levels. And for men, it’s up 24 percent.

People with lower incomes and those with less education had higher levels of stress. Those levels did tend to go down as people aged.

The Carnegie Mellon University study is the first of its kind.
