Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- Now that the weather finally feels more like spring, it’s time to think about getting in shape for summer. With just two months to go, you may be wondering if there’s even enough time to lose some weight. The answer is yes – if you’re willing to make five basic changes.
Weight loss specialist Dr. Wendy Scinta came up with the following list to help you meet your weight loss goals:
- Change what you drink. Cut out soda and anything that’s sugar sweetened, as well as alcohol, with the exception of red wine. Drink only water and low fat milk.
- Get rid of all the junk food in the house.
- Don’t eat sugar, white bread, white pasta flour or potatoes. Instead, Dr. Scinta recommends substituting super pasta from Wegmans.
- Eat often. Instead of three big meals a day, eat five times a day and make sure you eat foods in the right combination.
“Get rid any chips or cookies, crackers, all that sort of stuff and get some protein bars, get lots of fruits and vegetables, low-fat cheese, things like that that will make much healthier snacks,” Dr. Scinta explained. “Never eat a carb without protein, I always tell people that. Never have a piece of fruit without a cheese stick, or have carrots without some hummus. You want to have some protein on board to prolong it, so you don’t get a big spike in energy.”
Dr. Scinta also recommends getting six to nine hours of sleep per night -- sleeping less causes your body to produce hormones that lead to carb cravings and weight gain.Dr. Wendy Scinta can be reached at:
