Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- Ever wonder why you’re still hungry even after you’ve just eaten? It could be you’re enjoying your food too much.
That hunger we feel even after we should be fully may be caused by eating. A study by the Endocrine Society finds the culprit may be a gremlin called grehlin – a hormone that affects how hungry we feel.
Researchers served test subjects two kinds of meals -- first, their favorite foods such as tiramisu, cookies and cake, then a second meal with the same number of calories, but with bland and boring food.
After two hours, grehlin levels in their blood were down after the boring food, but elevated after the tasty meal. After we eat grehlin normally decreases, telling us we’re full, but this study suggests that pleasurable foods don’t have the same effect on grehlin, driving us to eat more.
