Flax is popping up in cereal, chips, even brownies.  It turns out the ancient Greeks and Romans used flax for its healing properties.

Flax is the seed of the flax plant.  It has some of the same benefits as fish oil -- it's good for your heart, it may protect against mild depression, Alzheimer’s disease and macular degeneration.

It may also have some benefits that fish oil doesn't, such as lowering the risk of breast cancer, and it's loaded with fiber.

Three tablespoons of flax a day helped women with hot flashes and night sweats.  You can buy the seeds and put some in yogurt, you can buy ground flax and add it to smoothies and you can buy products with flax.

If you can't take fish oil, stay away from flax; otherwise, give it a try.
