This Food For Thought is about tomatoes. A blight has hit the crop across the northeast, so there are fewer of them. 

But you might want to check out heirlooms – they’re rather weird-looking, but very tasty tomatoes.  They look different because they're grown from seeds handed down through generations. 

Like all tomatoes, they're rich in Vitamin C and antioxidants. 

A ripe tomato feels weighty and full of juice and the flesh should have a little sheen, and it should give a little and not be hard. 

Chefs recommend slicing them and drizzling with a little olive oil and sea salt.
