Fayetteville (WSYR-TV) -- There's a new way to get rid of those love handles. Doctors in Fayetteville are now freezing them off with no needles, no anesthesia and no down time.
It all started with children and popsicles. Doctors discovered cold killed off fat cells.
Harvard researchers figured out how to use the same process to remove fat from the body. It's called Coolscupting and it's FDA approved to treat love handles and belly fat.
Joan Cincotta read about Coolsculpting in Oprah's Magazine. When she heard it was available in Fayetteville, she signed right up.
During the treatment, skin and fat are sucked into a machine; patients say it feels like a frozen mammogram. Each area takes an hour to treat and it takes three to four weeks for the area to shrink as the body mops up the dead fat cells. They won't come back as long as you don't gain weight.
Joan tried out the treatment and says she's already planning her next treatment.
Coolsculpting is not covered by medical insurance. Treatments cost anywhere between $750 and $1,500 depending on the size of area to be treated.
Coolscupting is a non-invasive way to reduce fat, but is not a substitute for weight loss. The treatment is available at Living Proof Longevity Centre in Fayetteville. If you’re interested in Coolsculpting call them at (315) 329-4975.
