Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- A new study says the HPV vaccine – Gardasil – is safe, but may increase a young woman’s risk of fainting and skin infections shortly after.

The study, which appears in the Journal “Archives of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine” says fainting is six times more likely to occur the day the Gardasil shot is given and skin infections are nearly twice as likely to occur within two weeks of vaccination.

The side effects are somewhat expected and the study did not find any new safety concerns.
