Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- Teens in abusive relationships may be more likely to develop emotional problems and substance abuse issues.

A new study published in the journal “Pediatrics” looked at teens who admitted to being in a relationship where they experienced teen dating violence – emotional or physical.

Those same teens were questioned five years later and admitted they were more likely to engage in unhealthy behaviors. Girls who reported dating violence were more likely to binge drink and have symptoms of depression.

By contrast, boys who said they had been abused were more likely to be anti-social and think about suicide.
