New treatment in CNY offers potential relief for bowel incontinence

Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – It may be embarrassing, but it’s not uncommon: bowel incontinence affects an estimated 18 million adults in America.

Now, there’s a new treatment option in Central New York.

InterStim Therapy was FDA approved for bowel control in 2011 and is available at Colon Rectal Associates of Central NY.

The therapy targets communication problems between the brain and the nerves that control bowel function.

The treatment begins with a shorter trial before a doctor decides on a longer term of treatment.
