“My mom had osteoporosis. Both my sisters, ages 48 and 52, also have it. I am 45. Should I get a scan done now?” Bridgeport

Absolutely! A Crouse Hospital orthopedic surgeon we called says you definitely qualify for a bone density scan under the current guidelines... The World Health Organization recommends women younger than 65 with risk factors should have a bone scan, as well as all women 65 and over.

Risk factors for osteoporosis include a fracture, hormone replacement therapy, and a family history.
