ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Health officials have issued an ozone alert for the New York City metro area and parts of upstate as high heat and humidity mix with pollution from motor vehicles and power plants.

The warning includes the eastern Lake Ontario and western New York regions and is in effect from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday.

Anyone exercising or working outdoors should consider taking it easy, especially children and people with respiratory problems like asthma.

Temperatures in the low to mid-90s and high humidity are expected in much of the state through Thursday.
