Pediatrics organization calls on parents to reduced the amount of media their children consume
Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - An influential pediatrician group is calling for parents to restrict the amount of media their children use.
The American Academy of Pediatrics says whether it's a cell phone, TV, or computer, keep the devices out of children's bedrooms.
A recent study that says children ages 8 through 10 spend nearly eight-hours a day with different media. For older children and teenagers, the average is more than 11-hours a day.
This expands the longstanding recommendations on banning televisions from children's and teenagers' bedrooms and limiting entertainment screen time to no more than two-hours daily.
One of the doctors involved in the recommendations said "I guarantee you that if you have a 14-year-old boy and he has an internet connection in his bedroom, he is looking at pornography."
