Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - According to a new national poll, millions of Americans still do not understand how the Affordable Care Act will affect their insurance needs.
A day before the new health insurance marketplaces open offering affordable health insurance, a national poll released by the Commonwealth Fund
says that only one in three uninsured Americans knows about these marketplaces.
While 76 percent of Americans know they are required to have health insurance next year, less than half are aware that financial assistance will be available to help pay for health plans.
Authors of the report say the findings are a clear sign that more efforts are needed to get the message to those who need it most.
Tuesday is just the first day of the enrollment period and Americans have through March of next year to choose.
Coverage starts January 1, 2014.
