Clay (WSYR-TV) – The Onondaga County Health Department issued a warning on Wednesday for residents near Jackson Road in the town of Clay.

According to the health department, a feral cat was found living along the road. The cat tested positive for rabies.

It was the department’s first discovery of a rabid cat since August 2010.

Any person who had contact with the cat should contact their doctor to see if they need to receive a rabies vaccination.

The department stressed that rabies is a fatal disease. It can take several months for the symptoms to appear.
