Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – A new study suggests that single people suffer more from heart disease and live shorter lives than couples.
The new study hints at a higher risk of dying if diagnosed with any of the ten common cancers for singles.
Harvard researchers looked at 750,000 patients with breast, lung, prostate and other cancers and found those who were married were diagnosed earlier.
Their cancers were less likely to have spread and they were more likely to survive.
For some patients, having a spouse was even more powerful than chemo therapy.
But only half of Americans are married; so what does this mean for singles?
Researchers say any kind of social support can stand in for a spouse, so singles should lean on friends and family, and ask for help from doctors.
