Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- It’s about a month into the new school year and you may be running out of ideas for after school snacks. A Syracuse weight loss physician says many parents are getting it wrong.
“Snacks shouldn’t be crackers and chips,” Dr. Wendy Scinta with Medical Weight Loss of NY said.
A better snack option combines healthy carbs and protein. Here are a few ideas: carrot sticks with string cheese, celery sticks filled with peanut butter and raisins, hummus with celery or carrots or an apple with peanut butter.
If your kids don’t like vegetables, Dr. Scinta says keep trying. It can take up to 18 exposures to a food before kids will eat it.
And, if you don’t have time to fix a snack, Dr. Scinta likes Cliff Kidz Energy Bars.
