Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- You may be surprised to learn that your chances of recovering from or even surviving a stroke are affected by when you have it. A new study renews concerns about the so-called weekend effect.

Studying more than 90,000 stroke patients, researchers evaluated such indicators of stroke care as:
  • Availability of brain scans
  • Clot treatments
  • 30 day re-admission rates
  • Seven day mortality rates
The results showed poorer outcomes and lower treatment levels in all but one of the measurements on weekends.
