Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- We all know binge drinking is bad for you, but there’s new information about how it can damage you’re your brain.

Binge drinking generally means drinking a lot in a short period of time with the intention of getting drunk.

A new study finds that the brains of chronically heavy drinkers have twice the capacity to consume a chemical called acetic acid than the brains of light drinkers.

Acetic acid can add to the impairment alcohol brings and may increase vulnerability to alcohol dependence.

Researchers found that the brains of heavy drinkers consumed acetic acid twice as readily, which may make it harder to cut down or cut out their drinking.
