Study: Music can impact Alzheimer’s onset
Syracuse (WSYR-TV/ABC) - 5 million Americans suffer from Alzheimer’s and those numbers are expected to rise.
But there may be a way to delay the disease.
A new study is exploring the benefits of music – both listening to it and playing an instrument – in protecting against dementia.
Studies have looked at the intellectual and physical lifestyle factors that stave off cognitive decline before.
But researchers are particularly excited that they may have pinpointed just how much playing a musical instrument can help – by identifying that it could delay the symptoms for about five years.
