Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - Stroke may be shifting from a disease of the elderly to a mid-life health concern.

A new study published in the journal Neurology found the rate of first stroke among people between the ages of 20 and 54 jumped nearly six-percent in recent years.

The author of the findings says the uptick may be linked to increased stroke risk factors, including hypertension, diabetes and smoking in younger patients.
