Study says flu shot beneficial to patients with coronary disease
Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - Flu season is upon us and the CDC is up and running again on the flu campaign.
But you may be surprise by a new study that suggests a certain group needs the flu shot more than most.
Researchers at the University of Toronto looked at patients with coronary disease or recent acute coronary syndrome.
One striking similarity between those who had a lower risk of heart problems is that they had received the flu shot.
Decreasing their risk of the flu with a simple shot turned out to be a life-saver.
A circulatory system already weakened with cardiovascular disease does not stand up to the flu very well and researchers say if you reduce the chance of flu, you reduce the chance of death.
