“I'm a person who eats more fruits than vegetables. I know good nutrition includes both. I've seen V8 Fusion ads showing it has fruits and veggies. Could this be considered a nutritious substitute to eating vegetables?" Jamesville

We called a Registered Dietitian. She says V8 Fusion is actually a really good juice. That is because they add no simple sugar but simply add the juice of a fruits and vegetables together - kind of like "juicing" without the mess. Having said that, juices are never as good as whole fruits and vegetables because they do not contain the fiber and the skins. Whole fruit skins are often the part of the fruit where important nutrients and phytochemicals can be found. The fiber is critical to keep the body running smooth.  But, she does like the idea that they add all kinds of vegetables to the variety of juices like sweet potatoes and tomatoes. And it is a great way to get finicky kids, and people who have chewing difficulties or lack of appetite, to get their vegetables.
