Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - The Food and Drug Administration is out with a warning Tuesday night, regarding those emergency response buttons worn around a person's neck -- there is an apparent chocking hazard associated with the product.
There are more than $750,000 people who use these so-called lifeline devices, in which the person who is in distress can press the button to call for emergency help.
There have been six reports of serious injury or death from 1998 to 2009.
The problem is when the cord from the device becomes entangled with other objects worn around the neck.
The FDA recommends that users consult their health care providers to determine which style of emergency button -- including those that are worn on the wrist -- is most beneficial for them.
