In this What’s Going Around, there’s a spike in flu cases, and some pediatrician’s offices are seeing a dramatic increase in children with the H1N1 virus right now.
We begin our check of What's Going Around in Liverpool, where Dr. Dracker has seen more than a dozen children with flu symptoms in just the past couple of days.
Most of the kids have had significant fever, along with the other symptoms of cough, headache, body aches, and fatigue.
Other children have upper respiratory infections with a cough, runny nose and low grade fever.
In Camillus, the flu is also What's Going Around. Other children have sore throats and pink eye.
In Cicero, Dr. Terasaka's office is also seeing lots of children with the flu. Bronchitis is going around, along with strep throat and coughs.
At North Medical Urgent Care in Liverpool, they're seeing a lot of croup, some sore throats and sinus infections.
Sinus infections are also going around in Auburn. Dr. Grany's office says other patients are coming in with bronchitis and pink eye.
To the south of Syracuse at Brighton Pediatrics, many children have a high fever with no other symptoms, other kids have a cough, and they're also treating lots of sinus infections.
If someone in your family has a sinus infection, what do you do?
The telltale sign is pain and a headache, there might be a cough too. A doctor needs to diagnose a sinus infection, and the treatment includes antibiotics, and if the congestion is severe, a steroid nasal spray can help.
What's Going Around is our way of letting you know what illnesses are out there. You own doctor can tell you about the best treatments.
