Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- If you want to reduce your risk of diabetes, go easy on the white rice.

A new study estimates the risk of type 2 diabetes increases 10 percent with each increased serving of white rice. Because white rice is such a big part of the Asian diet, where diabetes rates have been traditionally low, researchers say it’s not just the rice, but combining it with little physical exercise. That raises the risk.

Researchers recommend eating more whole grains, which include brown rice.
