Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- The vaccine against whooping cough isn’t just for kids.

With the U.S. on course for a record year for whooping cough health officials say every adult should get at least one dose of the DPT vaccine.

Pregnant women are advised to get the vaccine in the later stages of pregnancy to protect newborns who are too young to be vaccinated. And children need five doses of the vaccine by the age of six to be fully protected.
