Proceeds to benefit The First Tee of Syracuse and Leadership Greater Syracuse

A field of nearly 150 professional women golfers returns to Syracuse this summer to compete in the Alliance Bank Golf Classic – the 13th stop on the 2009 Duramed FUTURES Tour, the LPGA’s Developmental Tour. The Tour has played in Syracuse, N.Y., for 14 consecutive years. The tournament will be held for the first time on the East Course at Drumlins Country Club on Nottingham Road in Syracuse.

Alliance Bank Golf Classic tournament week kicks off with the Nice N Easy Pro-Junior Challenge on July 29, followed by the Pro-Ams on the afternoon of July 29 and the morning of July 30. A youth clinic is scheduled for the morning of July 30.

Duramed FUTURES Tour play begins on Friday, July 31, providing spectators with an opportunity to watch some of the best women golfers in the world compete on their way to the LPGA. The purse has increased to $100,000 and tee times on Friday and Saturday start at 8 a.m. on both the first and tenth tees. On Sunday, play begins at 8 a.m. off of the first tee.

In 2008, the Top 10 money winners on the Duramed FUTURES Tour earned memberships on the LPGA Tour for 2009. Eight of the 10 golfers competed in the 2008 Alliance Bank Golf Classic including: Song Yi Choi, M.J. Hur, Mindy Kim, Jin Young Pak, Jessica Shepley, Sophia Sheridan, Leah Wigger and tournament winner, Kim Welch.

Admission to the Alliance Bank Golf Classic is $10 a day and $25 for a three-day weekend pass (Friday - Sunday) and parking is free. Free admission for children age 15 and under who are accompanied by a ticketed adult.

Proceeds from the 2009 Alliance Bank Golf Classic will benefit two new charities this year, The First Tee of Syracuse Inc. and Leadership Greater Syracuse.

The First Tee of Syracuse, a World Golf Foundation, is dedicated to providing young people an opportunity to develop, through golf and character education, values of honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, respect, confidence and judgment.

Leadership Greater Syracuse, the premier community leadership training organization in Central New York, is dedicated to recruiting, equipping, engaging and uniting people who are willing to make a difference in our community.

Nice N Easy Pro-Jr. Challenge

Competing foursomes representing women’s golf teams from area high schools will be matched with a professional golfer from the Duramed FUTURES Tour in the second annual Nice N Easy Grocery Shoppes Pro-Junior Challenge Wednesday, July 29, 2009 during Alliance Bank Golf Classic tournament week.

The Nice N Easy Pro-Junior Challenge is a nine-hole match beginning at 8 a.m. on the East Course at Drumlins Country Club in Syracuse. Each foursome will be joined by a fifth player from the Tour. Entry is free for participating high school women golfers with the Nice N Easy Grocery Shoppes Pro-Junior Challenge trophy and individual trophies awarded to the winning school and its participants, respectively.
