GETTING FIT… STAYING FIT!

Childhood Obesity is one of our greatest threats today. But all across Central New York, kids are fighting back! They’re walking and running, biking and climbing, competing on the athletic field and playing in their own backyards. They’re working hard to reverse the trend and adapt a healthier lifestyle for themselves, their friends and families.

The 9 Kids Challenge visits a different school or neighborhood each week, to salute efforts to make kids healthier and more active. Click on the link below and tell us what’s working… programs you know about that encourage better nutrition, more activity, and a healthier lifestyle for kids. It could be something going on at your school, a parks program, a community-wide initiative, or an individual who is really making a difference. We’ll share their stories on NewsChannel 9 newscasts and on “Bridge Street,” to encourage others to join the fight.

What Now?
Jane from Clay worries about her son's health. "For the past 2 yearly visits to the pediatrician, I have asked for help with my son's weight. He is now 8 years old, is 4"1" tall and weighs 94 pounds. Each time I have been told to 'increase his activity.' How? He is not a 'joiner,' and the few activities he likes are once a week for 7 weeks at a time. It's not working - now what?"
