New Hartford (WSYR-TV) - Fire investigators say an electrical fire caused smoke and water damage to the Gander Mountain store located in New Hartford late Wednesday night.
New Hartford police responded to the store located on Clinton Street around 11:30pm for what they said was originally a report of a burglar alarm. While responding, a fire alarm was reported.
Police officers were first to arrive at the store, and reported to have seen smoke and flames visible in an area within the store, and the store fire suppression system to be activated.
Fire fighters arrived a short time later, and knocked the flames down quickly. Police say the store has sustained smoke damage and a significant quantity of merchandise within the store was damaged from the smoke.
There were no injuries.
Store management staff and employees are working to clean the store; it was expected that the store would not open Thursday morning.
The cause of fire has been determined to be electrical in nature, stemming from the malfunction of a water pump used to operate a bait tank in the fishing dept.
