SYRACUSE, NY (WSYR-TV) - Syracuse Police are investigating a homicide in the 400 block of James Street on Sunday.

Officers responded to a shots fired call at an apartment complex around 7:45 p.m.  They found a 43-year-old man with at least one gunshot wound behind the building.

The victim was taken to Upstate University Hospital where he died.  He is not being identified pending notification of family members.

Police believe a fight in the building's parking lot led to the shooting.

Sgt. Tom Connellan says some witnesses saw a black, male suspect running from the scene as well as a car speeding away.

Police say the Crime Scene Unit will be on the scene for most of the night collecting evidence.

If you have any information on the shooting , call Syracuse Police at 442-5222.  All calls will be kept confidential.
