Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - Syracuse Police say they have arrested a suspect they believe is involved in a series of fires set in the city’s Tipperary Hill area.

Police announced the arrest at a press conference on Thursday afternoon.

Police have charged 32-year-old Shayne Davis in connection with the fires. They have accused Davis of setting six fires from May 4 through June 18, including a blaze on Cayuga Street that took the life of 90-year-old Fred Brown.

Davis has been charged with second-degree murder, five counts of arson, and one count of attempted arson.

The say Davis may be connected to other fires in the area and additional charges may be filed.

In June, Syracuse Police told local media they were investigating a series of fires in the area.
