Geddes (WSYR-TV) -- It may be hard to believe, but the Great New York State Fair is nearly here and crews at the fairgrounds are starting to prepare for the tens of thousands of expected fairgoers. And with less than a week to go, there’s still plenty to do.
Pieces of the Fair are starting to come together, but things won’t get frenetic until Monday and Tuesday when the rides come in. Come next week, it’ll be full speed ahead for those working to bring it all together.
The Fair opens Thursday.
“Right now, you just start running on an adrenaline high to some extent, as people come in and build and you see new things going up,” said Assistant Fair Director Troy Waffner.
The Fair will feature many of the same favorites it has over the years, but will mix in a few new things, like a new Grandstand ticketing system.
“There’ll be a little bit of patience involved in that for people coming. It’s a new learning curve. It’s an all e-ticket system, scanners, bar codes, paperless option. We have a new major sponsor, Hofmann Hot Dogs located right inside Gate 2. They’re planning on bringing in Kobyashi, the world famous eater to break a world record,” Waffner continued.
